Solstice Nurseries is a ‘not for profit’ plant nursery firm based in Aberdeenshire. We are a social firm that provides work experience, training and qualifications for people recovering from mental health issues.
Buying from Solstice benefits both people and the planet and we are continually trying to improve our practices to be healthier and greener by:
- Not using chemicals
- Encouraging wildlife especially birds, bees, frogs, newts, toads, ladybirds, hoverflies
- Using ¾ green waste compost reducing peat to a bare minimum
- Minimising water use
- Buying from local suppliers as much as possible to reduce air miles
- Checking the biosecurity of plant sales and purchases (disease reduction)
- Selling living Christmas trees
- Embracing paperless solutions - invoicing electronically & keeping waste to a minimum
- Using low energy lighting
- Paying the Real Living Wage
- Having indoor plants in the office
- Keeping packaging to a minimum
- Recycling plant pots
- Recycling general waste
- Re-using plastic labels, or changing to paper labels
- Re-inventing and upcycling from pallets, canes, old pots and anything we can re-use
